Dominic Iorfa says Ipswich Town’s players are feeling confident ahead of Saturday’s trip to Championship table-toppers Leeds United.

The Blues are just two points behind the leaders now following Saturday’s results – Town beat Bolton 2-0 at home, while Thomas Christiansen’s men suffered their first defeat of the campaign, losing 1-0 at Millwall.

Reflecting on the Blues’ victory over the rock-bottom Trotters, a side still winless in eight league games following promotion from League One, Iorfa said: “The first half, it was a bit even, they edged it slightly. But second half I think you could see we controlled it. They had their chances but it was just a matter of time before we scored another goal to seal it.

“It’s been a good start really (five league wins from seven) and everyone is enjoying it. We have a tough trip to Leeds coming up but we are in a good position, with a game in hand, and everyone is confident.

“If someone had told us the amount points we would be on after these first few games we would have taken it, definitely.

“It was disappointing losing two on the row (to Fulham and QPR), so it was important we won today. We had to win.”

He continued: “With Skusey’s goal, we needed that bit of luck. The first half we huffed and puffed not creating anything. Then we get the goal, with the aid of a bit of a deflection, and it helped us massively.”

Wolves loanee Iorfa started out on the left side of a back three on Saturday, then shifted to right-back after a half-time reshuffle.

He said: “Since I’ve been here I’ve played three positions – centre-back (in a two and a three), right-back and right wing-back, so I’ve shown my versatility. Whatever the manager wants to do I’ve shown I can adapt to different formations.

“The more positions you can play, it’s good. It’s only going to help me more. I’m just learning a lot.

“One thing I’m trying to add to my game is more goals. I’ve been in good positions as you saw today when I went forward but my final pass broke down trying to pass to Didzy (David McGoldrick).

“It’s something I’m trying to work on to contribute in more ways.”
