In 1976, Town beat Arsenal 3-1 at home as Kevin Beattie, Eric Gates and Roger Osborne scored for the Blues in their Division One clash, while Paul Mariner scored twice on this day in 1982 as the Blues put six past Notts County at Portman Road.

Fourteen years ago today, Shefki Kuqi scored twice as 10-man Ipswich beat Plymouth 3-2 at Portman Road, with Fabian Wilnis receiving a straight red card in the 26th minute in what was a five goal thriller, as Town made it six wins out of their first 10 league games.

And finally on this day in 1984, Gates was among the scorers as the Blues progressed through to the third round of the League Cup after beating Derby 4-2 at Portman Road.
