Ipswich Town striker Jack Marriott has been recalled from his loan spell at Gillingham and looks set to re-join Skrill Premier side Woking on a temporary basis.

The youngster has made just one brief substitute appearance to date, in the Gills’ 2-1 defeat at Brentford, and will return to the Cards, for whom he scored nine goals in nine games during a similar spell earlier in the season.

Marriott’s loan spell with the Gills was due to expire after Saturday’s home game with Port Vale.

“The lad wants to play first team games and unfortunately I can’t guarantee him that,” said Gillingham boss Paul Taylor, whose side are 14th in the League One table, Cody McDonald and Ade Akinfenwya having been ahead of Marriott in the pecking order.

“Jack is a good kid and we wish him all the best.”

Marriott tweeted: “Really enjoyed my short time at (Gillingham), great bunch of lads there and a terrific club. I wish them all the best!

“Delighted to be heading back to Woking also. Great club and looking forward to playing some games!”

The former academy scholar’s only first team experience with the Blues so far came as a sub at Burnley on the final day of last season.

Town right-back Elliott Hewitt remains at the Priestfield Stadium and boss Mick McCarthy – who recently brought in Frazer Richardson on loan from Middlesbrough as cover to Luke Chambers in that position – has said he’s happy for the Welsh Under-21 international to stay there for the rest of the campaign.

Another Town right-back, Freddie Veseli, is at Bury and McCarthy has said the Swiss U21 international can remain with the League Two side beyond his initial one-month spell.
