Gwion Edwards is pleased with his start to life as an Ipswich Town player but still wants to add more goals and assists to his game.
The Welshman, signed from Peterborough for £700,000 in the summer, is the only Ipswich player to have scored more than one league goal this season, with his strikes coming on his debut against Blackburn and then in the derby clash with Norwich.
Edwards is happy with his contribution but insists he still has even more to give.
“I back myself for a few more so I’ll keep working in training and, if the chance comes and I’m in the right area, hopefully I can take it,” he said.
“I’ve had an ok start with two goals but there’s still more to come. Hopefully I can provide a few assists and create chances for the team. If I can get a goal then that’s a bonus.
“It’s always positive to be on the teamsheet for games. It’s nice to be playing games.
“The gaffer tells me to be positive, get at my man and mix the game up. I like to attack players and get the ball into the box.”
Ipswich are still looking for their first win but Edwards insists the mood in the camp remains positive.
“We’re all frustrated we’ve not had that win yet but we’re all staying positive and ready to go again,” he said.
“If everyone was down in the dumps (it would be hard) but everyone’s coming in bright and that’s a good thing.
“We’re picking up points and that’s a great positive. If we’d lost every game I wouldn’t be sat here smiling so we just have to stick together.”
Next up is this evening’s game against third-placed Middlesbrough, with Edwards expecting a tough test.
“They are doing well in the Championship and it will be a tough game for us, but every game in the Championship’s a tough one,” he said.
“We have prepared well and we’ll go into the game like we always do, with confidence.
“You want to test yourself every week and especially against the bigger teams and with it on Sky Sports as well it will give us more of an incentive to go out there and show everyone what we can do and get that win.
“They’re third in the table now and will definitely stay there. We need to start well, get momentum and get a grip of the game.”
