Jonny Williams said the chance to work with Mick McCarthy again was one of the main factors behind his move to Ipswich Town.

The 20-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder spent time on-loan at Portman Road last season, scoring once in 13 games, and could make his second Blues debut at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

The midfielder has played in the Premier League and League Cup for Palace this season but Eagles’ boss Neil Warnock has elected to send the Wales international on-loan again, albeit with a 28-day recall clause.

Williams told the club website: “I found out after the midweek game against Newcastle that I was likely to be sent out on loan.

“After last year’s appearances in a Town shirt, Ipswich was one of the main clubs to come back to and I am happy to be here.

“I had a few other options but, speaking to my agent, we agreed Ipswich was the best thing right now and hopefully I can help the club carry on with the progress they have made this season.

“There are a number of positives about this club, what happened last year and what I was able to achieve fitness-wise and playing-wise.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the lads, there is a great team spirit.

“The manager showed great belief in me and it’s great to work with him again.”
