Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Leroy Lita will not be staying with the club after a short trial, but he will have an extended look at Owen Garvan and Balint Bajner.

Striker Lita, a free agent following his release by Swansea, scored the only goal of the game as a Town XI won 1-0 at Braintree Town on Tuesday night. Bajner – a 6ft 5in Hungarian striker who has been playing for Borussia Dortmund’s B side – played the final half an hour of tonight’s 3-0 win at Colchester United.

Asked if Lita was still with the club and would be here until the end of the week, McCarthy replied: “He’s not still here and he won’t be here until the end of the week.

Balint will be staying around for a few days though, I thought he did okay.”

French striker Achille Campion and Mauritian midfielder Kevin Bru also played against Braintree on Tuesday night, as did several young players from Irish side Shelbourne.

“It’s nothing ventured, nothing gained when it comes to triallists,” said McCarthy. “You can tell if they’re for you or not almost straight away. Triallists are triallists – they come in, some get kept on, some get sent home and some get asked to stay a little bit longer.”

Midfielder Garvan – who made more than 100 appearances for the Blues after coming through the academy – was left behind when Crystal Palace went on their pre-season trip to Austria. The Irishman, who has a year left on his deal with the Eagles, told the EADT earlier this week that he will not rule out a return to Portman Road.

“Owen’s training with us, but only training with us,” said McCarthy. “I took a look at him last year and I didn’t think he was right. I just asked Tony (Pulis) if he’s not going away with you (in pre-season) can I look at him? Who knows, in the future something might happen.

“He’s been around, he’s a great lad and he’s trained well – but nothing’s happening at the moment.”
