Luke Chambers, Ipswich Town captain, has backed the Club Together Youth Football campaign.

Chambers, the Tractors club captain since 2014, has thrown his weight behind the grassroots project which aims to help local youth teams buy football equipment.

Boys and girls youth football is a fun way to promote young peoples health and self-esteem. Grassroots football is also the way that many professional footballers kick of their playing careers.

All of Suffolk’s FA affiliated youth clubs from Under-Eights to Under – 18’s are able to sign-up for the promotion and will receive a free training football worth £17, just for registering.

Chambers, who will feature for the Blues today, said; “This is a great idea and helps promote youth football across the county. The more youngsters out there playing football, boys and girls, the better.”

Once registered for the promotion, clubs can start collecting tokens from the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star.

Clubs that collect 1,000 tokens between now and October 19 will receive £100 to spend on football equipment from Total Football in Ipswich. The top three clubs that collect the most tokens, calculated on pro-rata basis, will win prizes of £1,500, £1,000 and £500 respectively.

One of the clubs enthusiastically collecting tokens is Inspire’s Suffolk Football Club.

Chris Scopes, Inspires sports development officer, said: “As with all football teams and clubs, it is hard to purchase new kit and equipment. Money from Club Together will be vital in allowing us to do so.”

He continued: “Grassroots sports clubs play a vital role in their local community.”
