MONEYBAGS Ipswich Town may look to plunder cash-strapped Luton Town to bolster their promotion push.

The Blues have made enquiries about at least three of the Hatters squad, although it is not certain that their second bid for a player is one of the Luton trio.

Hibernian defender Rob Jones is another player that Ipswich are showing a big interest in but again it is unlikely that he is the outright target just now.

David Norris at Plymouth remains the Blues number one choice and they may look for alternatives if Plymouth continue to reject their offers.

Midfielders David Bell and Matthew Spring along with central defender Chris Coyne have all been asked about as Town look to spend some of Marcus Evans' cash on new players in this January transfer window.

A Luton insider last night told the EADT: “It is no surprise that clubs are circling above Luton and want players at bargain prices and Ipswich understandably are one of those.

“But they won't get them on the cheap, some of these lads are Championship class, and potentially could play even higher so they are worth decent money.”

Luton will sell those players they can get money before after their FA Cup tie with Liverpool, although they are hoping for a draw today to earn a lucrative replay, which will help pay more bills.

The Hatters have already turned down a £300,000 bid for Coyne but a clutch of other Championship clubs, including Ipswich, are ready to swoop.

David Bell and Matthew Spring are also understood to be interesting Magilton who made checks on them.

Bell, who will be 24 just over a fortnight, started at Rushden & Diamonds and is an energetic player who can play across the midfield, though mainly through the middle or on the right, in the mould of David Norris.

West Brom are also keen on the 5'10'' player who qualifies for the Republic of Ireland.

Matthew Spring is a player Town, under various managers have been linked with in the past, although his best games seem to be for Luton.

Town are still after David Norris and have also been linked with a number of other players.

Not for the first time since they become managers, Magilton is at odds with Sunderland boss Roy Keane who confirmed Town had asked about striker David Connolly, while the Blues boss denied his interest.

Magilton also dismissed reports that he was after Polish keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski although he admitted he had been to the Dundee United and Hearts clash in midweek.

Magilton said: “He's not one I'm interested in. He was playing but then so were 21 other players.”

Magilton confirmed that he had big decisions to make over the next couple of weeks regarding payers coming out of contract and those that may not figure in his plans, with up to half the squad potentially affected.

Magilton said: “I can remember playing my last three years here on one year left on my contract and I was happy with that.

“It may not be ideal for everyone but that may be what has to happen.

“If we feel we can bring in better players we will and if that means having to clear the decks a little then we will.”
