PAUL Jewell will be given more time to turn things around at troubled Ipswich Town.

We can reveal owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg remain behind the beleaguered Blues boss.

But time is running out for Jewell to bring about a change of fortunes after Saturday’s 2-1 loss against Charlton Athletic made it five defeats in the last six matches.

His problems were further increased by mounting speculation that former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp – a close friend of Evans – had been approached by the Town owner to take over.

Odds on Redknapp replacing Jewell tumbled over the weekend, but the Liverpudlian is expected to remain in charge for next Saturday’s trip to Barnsley.

But with the equal-worst goalscoring record and the second-worst defence in the Championship, the pressure is undoubtedly growing on Jewell.

A small section of the Sir Bobby Robson Stand were heard singing ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ on Saturday afternoon – with fed-up supporters having not witnessed a home win for seven matches.

Jewell insisted he would not walk away from Portman Road, admitted: “I know I am not very popular at the moment. All I can do is do my best and work as hard as I can, until I am told different.

“You have to face up to challenges in your life. It is a challenge for me and my family, they are part of it.

“I shall dust myself down and prepare for the Barnsley game.”
