BEATTIE - by Nigel Beckman

Hello, hello, Beattie is back, Beattie is back,

The Town fans roared with a thunderous crack,

For this was a player of whom they were proud,

So their chant was striking and extra loud.

____________________________________

His fearless tackles made an awesome sound,

As they echoed around many a ground,

His pace carried him through on tireless legs,

With his old mate Hunter - simply bacon and eggs,

____________________________________

His strength in the air was beyond reproach,

It bewildered them all, even his coach,

And many a keeper found it far too hot,

To hold onto ‘The Beats’ fearsome shot,

____________________________________

No finer an accolade to be behold,

From Sir Bob no less was proudly told,

That this kindly gentle Northern lad,

Was the best of players that England had,

____________________________________

Of his career his injuries became its slayer,

Robbing this great sport,

Of a truly wonderful player.

____________________________________

No doubts for his skills,

He stood miles apart,

____________________________________

But most importantly of all -

This big man - played the game from the heart.
