JIM Magilton's hopes of taking Danny Simpson on loan once again were tonight dashed after the Manchester United youngster joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long deal.

Simpson played in the latter part of Town's Championship campaign but the chances of him coming back to Portman Road were always slim with Sir Alex Ferguson insisting he would only let him go to another Premier League club, with Aston Villa also interested.

Meanwhile, Magilton will have to bide his time if he wants to land David Nugent with the striker insisting he wants to stay and fight for his place at Pompey.

Town may have to wait until Nugent realises he does not figure in Harry Redknapp's plans other than to sell him to finance another deal.
