Southend United have been told by Ipswich they can take transfer-listed defender Dan Harding on loan with a view to a permanent move.
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson is keen to talk to Harding after already rejecting the chance to take on former Town full back Jamie Clapham who had a trial at Roots Hall.
Preston are also understood to have enquired about Harding after he was recommended by former goalkeeping coach Andy Rhodes who joined the Lilywhites this week.
It is unlikely Harding will move to the north-west just now for personal reasons and certainly not before the Blues play Preston on Saturday in the season opener.
