Ipswich v Fulham: Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Paul Anderson, Jonathan Parr, Stephen Hunt and Cameron Stewart are all ruled out of tomorrow’s televised Championship opener against newly-relegated Fulham (5.15pm).

Hunt has missed all of pre-season with a calf problem, while fellow left-winger Cameron Stewart fractured his jaw in the pre-season finale at Leyton Orient last weekend and is set for 4-6 weeks on the sidelines.

Left-back Parr limped off with a groin problem in the first half of the aforementioned match at Brisbane Road and has not recovered in time, while right-winger Anderson pulled a hamstring in training last week.

The good news is that centre-back Tommy Smith has recovered after being rested last weekend with a sore groin.

On Stewart, McCarthy said: “He’s gutted and we are. I’ve done that, got injured straight after moving to a new club. It requires a certain amount of time to heal, he’ll just have to keep training, keep his fitness up and make sure he’s ready for six weeks time.”

He continued; “Tommy’s fit. He took a knock in training, but he was always going to be fine.

“But Jonny Parr’s not fit, Paul Anderson’s not fit, Stephen Hunt’s not fit and Cameron Stewart – so we’ve got four of the 20 outfield players that I’ve got who are injured.

“We seemed to have a glut of wide players and now they’re all injured. I don’t know how, we haven’t been doing anything differently.”

It means that McCarthy may play young right-back Elliott Hewitt on the right of midfield, as he did against Orient last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Blues boss says there are no transfer moves on the go. Asked if there were likely to be any ins or outs soon, or whether there had been any interest in the transfer-listed Paul Taylor, he replied: “No to all of those – none coming in, none going out.”
