Midfield duo Jonny Williams and Kevin Bru are both injury doubts for Ipswich Town ahead of tomorrow’s Championship visit of Huddersfield Town.

Asked if his team had come through Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City unscathed, manger Mick McCarthy replied: “Not really, no. Jonny (Williams) got a few kicks so we’ll have to see how he is.

“Of course Tyrone got a booking so he’s suspended. Kevin Bru has got a couple of knocks and his groin was tight. It’s a long time since he’s played Saturday-Tuesday at that intensity.

“I’ll give them all a chance to see how they are. I’m hopeful.

“Murph’s (Daryl Murphy) alright. Luke Hyam’s okay, Teddy Bishop’s back; so we’ve got numbers, we’re okay.”

Murphy returned to action in midweek after missing the 1-1 home draw with Blackburn with an Achilles problem, while Hyam and Bishop have missed the last two matches with a hip injury and illness respectively.

On Mings – the Championship Player of the Month for September – being suspended, McCarthy said: “Hopefully its not a blow at all. We’ll see won’t we?

“He’s been devastatingly good, I think. He really has been outstanding. On Tuesday night he was a bit below-par though, as all of us were. I hope we don’t miss him, but when players are playing as well as he has you don’t want them suspended.”

Asked who would replace Mings in the team, the Blues boss said: “Tommy (Smith) will play.”

And when asked whether he could say whether that would be as direct replacement at left-back, or as a centre-back – with Jonathan Parr moving to left-back and Luke Chambers reverting to right-back – he replied: “No, not really. Why would I want to? Because then Chris Powell comes down and knows my team and how we’re going to set-up. Let him find out at two o’clock like everybody else.”

On Hyam being available again, he said: “I can’t say we missed him against Blackburn because we were excellent in the second half and should have won. I think we missed him the other night though.

“Whatever Luke gives us with the ball, you know he’s going to go around and make his tackles and compete. If anything, we maybe just lacked that bit of bite. It’s great to have him back because it’s nice to have that difference, a player who goes around and puts the bite on people and closes them down in addition to the ability of players like Jonny (Williams) and Teddy Bishop. It’s nice to have that variance, especially when you have three in the middle.”
