FORMER Blues star Fabian Wilnis is to start playing again.

He is set to turn out for VV Smitshoek who play in the first class B league in Holland where Wilnis is now based.

Coached by Hans Maus, Smitshoek are fourth in the table with 17 points from 11 games and they beat second placed Voorschoten '97 3-2 last Saturday.

Wilnis, 39, who made over 300 appearances for Town, said: “I was asked to play by the coach and the club is just round the corner from where I live.

“I was planning to run a marathon and move away from football, but I have got the bug again.

“Because of the regulations I cannot play until January, but I have signed on and am looking forward to getting back out on the field again.

“It is only amateur football, but the coach said that I looked fit, and I know that I am still fit and am looking ahead to enjoying the rest of the season.”

Wilnis played for Grays Athletic in the Blue Square Premier last season while he completed a successful testimonial year culminating in a game against Colchester United at Portman Road last July.

- Wilnis will be at Buttermarket shopping centre, Ipswich tomorrow night from 6pm until 9pm to sign copies of his book 'Full English'. He will be near the Ipswich Town shop.

There will be photographic opportunities and the book will be available at a reduced price of 15, and make an ideal Christmas gift.
