IPSWICH Ladies travelled to Hoddesdon on Sunday to face Turnford in the latest round of the Netball Regional League and won 67-20.

With finishing top in the league now out of reach, Ipswich were determined to keep the second place position they have sat in most of the season and, with only three games to go in the league, the Turnford game was a must-win.

Unfortunately for Turnford, three of their players were involved in a car accident on their way to the game, so they had to quickly draft in a couple of younger players to play.

Ipswich were determined not to let this news upset their game and went in to the first quarter hard. Turnford had to start the game with six players and Ipswich took advantage, using the unmarked player, Jane Fison, well.

During the quarter, Turnford's seventh player arrived but Ipswich did not let this disrupt their flow, with Dawn Blake and Hannah Martindill picking up on every rebound. Ipswich took the quarter 20-2.

Turnford came out hard in the second quarter. However, Ipswich continued to pick up on loose passes and some excellent attacking moves between Avril Gray and Carly Wicks caused Turnford some problems.

Carly Wicks and Lisa Rice continued to shoot well to take Ipswich in to a 33-10 lead at half-time.

Ipswich made a couple of defensive changes at half-time. bringing off Yvonne Ewers and Dawn Blake and putting on Stacey Everett and Clair Martin. The defence settled well and, with the whole team forcing Turnford in to several errors the score at third quarter time was unassailable at 51-13.

The fourth quarter saw Lisa Rice rested, Hannah Martindill taken out of defence in to the shooting position and Dawn Blake returning at GD.

Turnford had not given up and put in a good performance in the fourth quarter. Ipswich, however, were still dominant, taking the last quarter 16-7 with the final score of 67-20.

Squad: Lisa Rice, Carly Wicks, Jane Fison, Yvonne Ewers, Hannah Martindill, Dawn Blake, Stacey Everett, Clair Martin.

Ipswich Ladies' next match is against Norfolk United and is their last home game of the season on Sunday, March 25 at Northgate Sports Centre, 12.30pm start. Spectators are welcome.
