TWENTY-ONE years ago Russell Osman was a member of the Ipswich Town team that won the UEFA Cup.

But Russell, a former England Schoolboys rugby international, is a genuine all-round sportsman.

He's a member of the Lord's Taverners that play cricket matches throughout the summer raising money for charity.

Russell, who now lives near Bristol, is also a five-handicap golfer and a regular playing partner of his is Gordon Brand junior, the European Tour player.

Golf runs very much in the Osman family. Father Rex, who was in charge of the Centre Spot at Portman Road in those heady days under Bobby Robson, now works at Waldringfield Heath as golf co-ordinator while Russell's mother Diane has been a member at the club for several years and currently plays off a 19 handicap. Russell also has three brothers and a sister.

Simon, who works as an engineer in Leicester, plays off a 16 handicap and Murray, the former Ipswich Town youth team player who went on to play for Sudbury Town, plays a bit of golf in between his shifts as a policeman.

Murray lives in Ipswich as does Russell's sister, Kelly, who has just taken up the game. The odd man out is Russell's eldest brother Mark who lives in Frinton. He's a softball coach and his two daughters, Stephanie and Laura have both represented Great Britain at the sport.

Russell, who was a member of the 1976 FA Youth Cup winning team, won 11 full England caps as well as representing his country at 'B' and Under-21 level.

After making almost 400 senior appearances Russell played for Leicester City and Southampton before becoming the manager of Bristol City.

He worked as a summariser for ITV on their Nationwide League games and recently took possession of a brand-new Porsche with a personalised number plate.
