IPSWICH Town boss Joe Royle today confirmed that he wants to bring in a new striker before the start of the season.

Speaking during a training session at a village ground just outside Randers in Denmark, the Town boss said that he was concerned at the lack of fire power shown by his front players so far.

Royle is looking for a regular partner for Darren Bent in attack.

And for tomorrow's match against top Danish side Aalborg, he is ready to start utility player Richard Naylor alongside Bent.

Royle said: “It would be great if we could bring in a front player by the time we kick off our first competitive game against Gillingham.

“And I am hopeful that this will happen. Financial restrictions might mean that there may have to be a change in the squad to do this, but it could well happen.

“Neither Pablo Counago nor Shefki Kuqi have been at their best so far although every man in the squad still has a chance to play for his place.

“It would be fair to say that there are things in the pipeline, and I will also like to bring in one other player to increase numbers and he would play in midfield.

“Things move on and although it might not be possible to add to the squad at this exact time this could change and a newcomer could be signed.”

Royle described Bent's performance so far as electric, but he is not so forthcoming with his praise over Counago, the Spaniard who is still on a big money contract, and Finland international Kuqi.

Royle had words with Counago at the hotel yesterday and said: “Pablo does not agree that he is not playing well and we had a chat about it. It would be nice if he could get back to his best form.

“Darren Bent has been tremendous while Richard Naylor would play anywhere for the club and he showed this attitude when he turned out with a broken toe in one of our games last season.”

Georges Santos and Matt Richards missed training this morning with a hip and knee problem respectively but Richards is set to play tomorrow with Royle already announcing what his line up will be.

Royle said: “The game at Randers on Tuesday that ended 0-0 was not a spectacle but it was all about fitness and we only had two players start who would be in my regular line-up.

“We were impotent then and must improve on that. It will be a harder game tomorrow and I have selected a stronger team with those players who were rested after playing at Peterborough last Saturday back with us.”

The team for tomorrow is: Kelvin Davis, Fabian Wilnis, Drissa Diallo, Jason De Vos, Matt Richards (if unfit Scott Barron), Tommy Miller, Jim Magilton, Kevin Horlock, Ian Westlake, Richard Naylor and Darren Bent.

The players had a free afternoon when they did some shopping in Randers and after tomorrow night's game they fly back on Saturday to continue their pre-season training.
