FELIXSTOWE teenager Katy Snelgrove has failed to qualify for the top flight of the English Girls Championship being staged at Long Ashton.

Katy, 17, took her place among the country's top 64 girl golfers, but had disappointing qualifying rounds of 91 and 87 at the course near Bristol.

This meant she missed the cut and had to settle for a place in the second flight of the tournament which got under way on Tuesday.

She was some way behind the best qualifier, Alexandra Marshall of North Foreland, who returned impressive scores of 72 and 77.

Katy, the junior captain at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club, now takes on Braintree's Chloe Rogers at the first stage of the matchplay event.

If she wins through, she will take on either Debbie Holland of The Warren or Brampton Park's Vicki Power later in the day, although even if she loses she will still be involved in consolation events through to Friday, the closing day.
