EVER since Kenny Minter had to have his right arm amputated seven years ago, he has made light of the loss.

His determination and terrific sense of humour has made him succeed as a one-armed golfer – some say bandit! – and now he has reduced his handicap to 19.

Five years ago when he started playing again, he had a handicap of 28 and already this year Kenny has reduced that by two shots.

Just to prove he is a mean opponent, Kenny has reached the final of the Waldringfield Heath WAGS single knockout competition.

To reach the final Kenny has knocked out four opponents, including three off single figures – Ian Stewart, Rex Barker and George Kirby – and Jim Bryant, a former England international shot who was a judge at the recent Commonwealth Games.

Now 12 handicapper Alan Adamson stands in his way of winning the KO final on a date still to be arranged.

"When I lost my arm, I set myself a target of getting down to an 18 handicap," said Kenny. "I'm nearly there now."

He plays on an average three times a week and practises his chipping and putting.

"If you practice hard enough, you get there in the end," he added.
