SUFFOLK'S two speedway clubs are to combine in the track education of 17-year-old Daniel King.

The Kent-based rider will be a regular in the Ipswich Witches Elite League side and will also ride some meetings for Mildenhall in the Conference.

Mildenhall promoter Graham Drury said: “We will look after Daniel and help him to win races at our level, which will keep his confidence high.

“I know John and Chris Louis are paying Daniel special attention at Foxhall and we will do the same at West Row.”

This Sunday at 4pm King (pictured) takes his place in the British Under-21 qualifier at Mildenhall with five places up for grabs for the British Final at Rye House on May 1.

“Hopefully, Mildenhall riders James Brundle and King will get through to the final, but there is no doubt they will need to be at their best.”

Meanwhile, Witches squad member Garry Stead watched Ipswich in action in their 49-41 victory at Belle Vue last Monday.

Sheffield-based Stead rides for Hull in the Premier League and will come into the Witches' equation when they have injuries or unavailability.

He said: “To be honest I will not want to ride too many matches at Foxhall Stadium on Thursday nights. Hull's home night is on Wednesday and it will take a lot of work to get bikes prepared and then drive to Suffolk and back.

“I want to play a part with Ipswich and perhaps I will figure in some away matches in my part of the world. I am looking forward to it and on the evidence of Monday Ipswich have an excellent chance of taking some honours this year.”

Stoke's Jan Staechmann is the other Ipswich squad member, while King's Lynn's Trevor Harding is the rider who will replace floater Danny Bird when the latter is not available. Harding is set make his Witches debut at Oxford on Monday.
