SUBSTITUTE Iain Hume denied Colchester United what would have been their first back-to-back victories of the season, at relegation threatened Leicester City this afternoon.

Basement dwellers Colchester, who already know that they will be playing in League One next season, took the lead with just 14 minutes remaining.

Kevin Lisbie struck with his 17th goal of the season. The ex-Charlton front-runner met Johnnie Jackson's exquisite cross with a slick header that drifted into the far corner of the net.

The U's had beaten Ipswich in their previous match, and back-to-back victories would have seen them climb off the bottom of the table, above Scunthorpe.

However, Hume ghosted in to nod home Lee Hendrie's lofted pass in the 89th minute. The ex-Tranmere striker had therefore rescued a point for Leicester, although they really needed all three to boost their escape from relegation.

It was a thrilling finale, with both sides having chances to win it at the death. Jackson and Lisbie both went close for the visitors, but this was still a fine performance.
