Suffolk Senior Cup

Leiston 3 Needham Market 1

THIS tie, played on a very sticky surface, took 15 minutes to spark into life. A surging run from Leiston's centre half Nettlingham through midfield ended with a neat pass to the left flank where Spurling's low cross took two deflections before Jennings bundled home.

Needham posed few threats with the home side in the ascendancy but failing to their solitary goal. The first half ended controversially. First Needham Rickwood and Wake were denied before Leiston's right back Wright was red carded for holding back Rickwood with the initial foul from 10 yards outside the area.

Wake duly despatched the penalty. Numerically Needham should have shown the greater desire but Leiston produced a super second half display.

Jennings and Chenery combined for Spurling to prize the lead before a mazy 60 yard run from Spurling ended with Folkard putting past his own keeper for the third.

Further opportunities for the home side went begging as they ran out worthy winners and set up a quarter final clash away to Ashlea in early January.
