ROBIN Mann's level par round at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club was enough to make him leading professional in the first Suffolk Winter Alliance meeting of the new year.

The Felixstowe Golf Range professional beat Andrew Tokley of Stoke by Nayland, now a fully qualified professional, by one shot. Mann also beat Tokley in a play-off for the Suffolk Strokeplay title at Aldeburgh in October.

The Stoke by Nayland pairing of Steve Murphy and Gary Borthwick won the betterball team event with 45 Stableford points. They were two points better than Mark Pickup and Paul Houchen of Haverhill who took second place on countback from Tom Wright and David Markham of Rushmere.

Haverhill's Jim Walker and Eric Kiddle were fourth with 42 points, also on countback.

The predicted rain stayed away and the course was in excellent condition for the time of year. The next Alliance meeting will be at Halesworth on January 17.
