LOCAL SOCCER: A round-up of all the local football action including reports from the FA Vase, the Jewson League and the Jewson First Division KO Cup.

LOCAL SOCCER

Concord Rangers 2 Ipswich Wanderers 3

WANDERERS staged a stunning comeback to come from 2-0 down and clinch a trip to Lowestoft in the next round of the FA Vase.

Concord began the better side and Stannard produced a good save to deny Heale. Hethering-ton then headed wide for Wanderers before Greaves and Brant missed good chances for the home side.

Concord took the lead when Goodwin crossed on the half hour and Greaves got in front of his marker and slottedhome.

Stannard then kept Wanderers in the game when he denied Brant as the striker raced clean through. However, the same player increased the lead on 63 minutes when Stannard was again left exposed.

Wanderers introduced Bell and Burman and they took the game to their hosts and on 78 minutes a cross from Hetherington led to Burman making no mistake.

Wanderers were now on top but Concord almost restored the lead with Stannard pushing a Heale strike on to the post. Wanderers equalised on 89 minutes when Downes found Bell and he turned sharply and drilled the ball home.

Brant tested Stannard in the early moments of extra time, but Wanderers scored the winner on 95 minutes when a flowing move ended with Lowe firing past Brightley.

Southend Manor 4 Hadleigh 0

HADLEIGH were forced to make a number of team changes from the side which earned a draw in the first match and Southend's speedy attackers were always in charge of this replay.

Well-struck first half goals by Smith, after only three minutes, Curtis, on 34 minutes, and Nicks on 41 minutes, put the Essex side on top.

Hadleigh played much better in the second half and Snell went close before home goalkeeper Green made a brilliant double save from Broomfield and Rush in the 81st minute.

In the last minute, Miles Donovan gave away a penalty kick which was converted by Dawson for the fourth goal.

Tiptree 2 Stowmarket 1

THESE two top five sides produced an excellent Jewson League Premier match.

Stowmarket had a much changed line-up and keeper Nunn produced a superb tip-over save to deny Barefield. But the striker got his reward moments later when he shot into the far corner.

Stowmarket made a change at the interval with Yeomans replacing Mayes, and somewhat against the run of play Tiptree extended their lead when excellent play by Barefield created space for Rochester to fire home.

Stowmarket continued to impress and got on the score sheet when Ratcliffe sent in a stinging drive which Bavester could not hold and Yeomans made no mistake in hammering home the loose ball.

Felixstowe 2 Whitton United 5

ANY hopes Felixstowe had of a prolonged run in the First Division KO Cup were effectively ended as neighbours Whitton deservedly took a three-goal advantage into the second leg.

Fuller and Etti netted for the home side, but the talented Hurd (two), Grimwood, Swann and substitute Burglass gave Whitton victory.
