IPSWICH Town defender Chris Makin will have an injection under anaesthetic next week, in a bid to clear up his mystery hip injury.

Former Sunderland stalwart Makin has not played since August. His last appearance was the 2-1 home defeat by West Ham on August 30.

Town manager Joe Royle said: “Chris (Makin) will have an injection under anaesthetic in cartilage around his pelvis.

“We will know whether it has worked very soon, by the start of the following week.

“If it fails to have the desired effect, then Chris would require surgery. That would mean him missing the rest of the season,” added Royle.

With Fabian Wilnis now ruled out for up to a month with a shoulder injury, and Wolves' Oleg Luzhny having turned down a loan move to the Blues, Jermaine Wright will play as a makeshift right back when Ipswich take on Wigan this evening.
