DERBY COUNTY 1 IPSWICH TOWN 4

THREE goals in nine minutes before half-time saw Ipswich sign off their season with a flourish. Matt Holland put the seal on the win at Pride Park, ending the match – and possibly his Town career – with a last-minute strike.

It added up to a finale of frustration for the Blues. They kicked off knowing they would finish just outside the play-off positions, and the result against George Burley's Derby was of no significance.

Burley, who began the season as Town boss and ended it in temporary charge of Derby, got a rousing reception from BOTH sets of fans.

His current side made the better start, and went ahead on 22 minutes when Rob Lee scored from a narrow angle.

But the game was turned on its head when Town scored ten minutes later and went on to reach half-time 3-1 ahead.

Derby keeper Andy Oakes should have stopped the weak shot from Pablo Counago that drew Ipswich level.

Five minutes later Darren Bent got the better of Derby sub Ian Evatt to score at the second attempt.

And on 41 minutes Jim Magilton hit Town's third with a superb curling free-kick after Evatt brought down Counago on the edge of the box.

From then on Ipswich were in command, and it was fitting that man-of-the-match Holland should strike the final goal.
