THREE senior members of Stowmarket Swimming Club competed in the Midlands Masters Championships at Leamington Spa this weekend, gaining seven medals out of eight swims.

David Elliston impressed with a trio of medals, taking gold in the 40-44 years 200m butterfly (2.30.54) and two silvers in the 200m IM (2.27.02) and 100m IM (1.07.31).

In the 45-49yrs age group, Dale Barker was very pleased with his 100m backstroke time of 1.08.19 where he came second behind Craig Norrey, who set a new British record of 1.03.46 in that age group.

Despite winning gold in the 200m back, Barker was less impressed about his time.

Andy Wright, swimming at Leamington for the first time since 1999, came second in both his 50-54yrs age category 200m front crawl and 200m backstroke, while he also came sixth place in the 200m breaststroke.

Wright's 200m back time of 3.01.47 was his best for over three years.
