DAVID Miller led home a couple of City of Norwich AC athletes to record an impressive win at the St Peter's Great East Run, staged from Bungay over a 20km course last Sunday.

Miller, of Woodbridge Shufflers, posted a winning time of 1hr 07mins 42secs. He passed the 150 mark for career victories at the end of last year.

Neil Davison was second in 1.08.48, followed by City of Norwich club-mate Andy Jones (1.09.22).

There was a strong run from David Reed of Saint Edmund Pacers. He was first in his new over-45 age group, thanks to an effort of 1.12.00. The Bury St Edmunds postman is peaking well for April's London Marathon.

The Pacers scooped a number of awards at Bungay.

In fact, they enjoyed a clean-sweep in the over-45 section, with Chris Cooke (1.14.04) and Les Heath (1.15.28) backing up Reed.

Club-mate Alan Dawson topped the over-50 category with 1.15.37, and Kevin Vaughan was second to City of Norwich AC's Stefan Glaysher in the over-40 age group.

Helen Cawthorne, of Redhill Road Runners, triumphed in the ladies' race. She stopped the clock at 1.24.30.

But Suffolk runners were also to the fore, not least amongst the over-45 veterans, where Woodbridge Shufflers' Melanie Roberts and Pacers' Tricia Dennison were first and second respectively.

Tonya Antonis won the over-35 category in the colours of Ipswich Harriers, as did Newmarket Joggers' Julia Midleton in the over-55 class. Ipswich Jaffa's Maureen Wright was the second over-60 finisher.

The distance steps up to 20 miles this weekend, when many local runners will converge on Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, for the annual Muscular Dystrophy 20-mile race on Sunday (10.30am start).
