Former England captain Ray Wilkins, assistant to new Millwall boss Dennis Wise, made a personal check on 28-year-old Marshall yesterday.
Accompanied by soon-to-be-appointed chief scout David Tuttle, he saw Marshall turn in a flawless display as a young Ipswich second string defeated their Coventry counterparts 1-0 at the Playford Road training ground.
