FAR from flying the flag for Ipswich and District IBC, their mixed fours team threw in the towel in their second round match against Mid-Suffolk in the Egham Trophy.
They started brightly enough, leading 28-13 after five ends, this including a 23-0 lead by the two home rinks. Five ends later the position was completely reversed with Mid-Suffolk leading by 48 shots to 35. A minor recovery in the next five ends was not maintained and they ended well beaten by 25 shots.
At Ipswich, Colin Rumsby's rink were always in command to record the club's only success. John Rednall's team led 7-0 after five ends but failed to press home their advantage. They failed to score in the last six ends to leave the visitors winners by four shots.
At Mid-Suffolk the home rinks dominated throughout, crushing the Ipswich teams by 35 shots. Gerry Coles' team had a nightmare match and scored on only five ends.
At Ipswich (48 shots-38): R Gage, A Gibson, M Insley, C Rumsby 32, A Wright 18. D Cousins, N Wright, S Utteridge, J Rednall 16, B King 20.
At Mid-Suffolk (21 shots-56): P Pettit, R Utteridge, I Morey, P Last 15, C Finbow 27. M Coles, A Cable, D Cooke, G Coles 6, R Lillistone 29.
Score at: 5 ends 281-13, 10 ends 35-48, 15 ends 57-63, 18 ends 60-78.
Following the impressive win over Felixstowe in the first round, this match was a disastrous reversal of form, and effectively ends the club's interest in this season's national inter-club events.
