TONY Mowbray, the man who provided the base for Ipswich's promotion bid five seasons ago, is tipping the Blues to reach the Premiership again.

And current Hibernian manager Mowbray, who watched Town beat Millwall at Portman Road, bases his prediction on central defender Jason De Vos.

“Jason was a key signing,” said Mowbray, who is enjoying life in the Scottish Premier League.

“Without being big-headed I can see him filling the same role I did in 1999/2000. He can be the rock at the heart of the defence and is in a similar mode to me.

“The Ipswich defence looked solid and played very well only allowing Millwall one chance.

“With the strikers manager Joe Royle has at his disposal, Ipswich have every chance of doing well this season now that Jason has come in and tightened up the defence.”

Mowbray's playing days ended after he scored a fine headed goal in the First Division play-off final win over Barnsley at Wembley Stadium.

He joined the coaching staff at Portman Road and briefly took over as caretaker-manager after George Burley was dismissed and before Royle was appointed.
