PAULA Drane grabbed a last-gasp equaliser to earn Stowmarket Sophtlogic Ladies a 3-3 South East Combination League draw with visiting Cambridge University.

Stowmarket – League Cup winners over West Ham in their previous contest – were looking for valuable league points against their rock bottom guests.

But a string of wasted goalscoring chances denied the hosts a chance of victory.

And they needed Drane's injury-time strike to salvage a share of the spoils.

Stowmarket had to adopt an unfamiliar defensive line-up as Claire McLean settled back into the side after a long absence due to work commitments.

But they were ahead within ten minutes as Drane, who is now looking a formidable force down the Stow right wing, provided Jo Raven with an opening for her third goal of the season.

Jo Welham and McLean squandered chances to extend the lead before Cambridge levelled with a breakaway effort.

Steph Lloyd, new signing Stephanie Edwards and Debbie Morley went close to restoring Stow's advantage.

And it was against the run of play that Cambridge stunned the home side with two goals to seize a 3-1 interval lead.

Positive words from manager Ali Seymour and a change of tactics tightened things up with the Stow defence looking a lot more organised after the restart.

Lloyd had the first of many chances after she connected well with Smith's corner only to see her shot come back off the Cambridge woodwork.

Morley then wasted a great chance from Welham's cross before she headed narrowly wide.

The Stowmarket pressure finally paid off in the 85th minute as Lloyd blasted home from Morley's knockdown.

And it was Lloyd who fashioned the opening for Drane to snatch a late leveller.
