SUFFOLK Winter Alliance have a meeting at Ufford Park tomorrow when secretary Phil Segger and starter Ray Porter will be on duty as usual.
Mr Segger, a Rushmere member, is in his ninth year in the post. The longest-serving Alliance secretary has been Roy Turnbull of Ipswich Golf Club who served 11 years.
Other secretaries have included Harry Leggett (Rushmere), George Summers (Rushmere), Ken Cutting (Felixstowe Ferry) and Ken Mazdon (Newton Green).
The Alliance has fewer members than in its heyday, but enough to make the running of events reasonably straightforward with fewer competitors having to be balloted out of events.
The average field on a Sunday is around 100 while in midweek it is around 80. The remaining meetings this season are:
Feb 7: Ufford Park. Feb 18: Haverhill. Feb 28: The Suffolk. March 11: Diss (Millennium Cup), March 21: Felixstowe Ferry. April 1: Southwold.
The annual Junior Alliance meeting will be at Stowmarket on Thursday, April 12.
