There is a crucial clash in SIL Division One today, as the race for the league title intensifies.

The stand-out encounter of the day sees second-top Henley Athletic host third-placed Coplestonians.

Both teams have seven games left to play, with Henley a point better off, but the duo can still win the title, with leaders Ransomes Sports, 11 points clear of second place, having played three more games.

The corresponding game between the teams, saw Coplestonians prevail at home, 3-1, in a re-arranged fixture two weeks ago.

Cops’ assistant manager Brian Vella, said: “It was a very even game when the two sides played recently.

“They missed a few chances and we defended well. We managed to create a few opportunities too which we converted.”

The run-in to the season promises to be a tight one, with just five points separating Henley in second and Mendlesham in sixth place.

For Coplestonians, they will be looking to regain the Senior Division status they lost in 2014.

“Cops are a Senior Division team really, they have a very good set-up, a good youth academy, some amazing coaches, and are well respected in Ipswich,” said Vella

“But there are a few other teams trying to get there too. Let’s not forget AFC Hoxne who are just behind us in the table.

“Henley have been knocking on the door for a few seasons and Ransomes, in my opinion, are a Senior Division side too.

“I wish they could all be playing in the Senior Division, but unfortunately there are only a couple of spots available each season.”
