THE semi-finals of the Suffolk Plate may take place under floodlights amid fears of a fixture backlog.
The cold weather throughout December and January has seen many local games postponed and a proposal has been submitted for the semi-finals between Stowmarket and Southwold, and Harwich & Dovercourt and Ipswich YM to be played in the evening.
“There is such a big fixture backlog at the moment that the possibility of playing under floodlights has been raised,” admitted Suffolk RU Competition chairman, Simon Lord.
“The only problem with that is Harwich have not got any floodlights but we will have to wait and see whether we could perhaps play it at a neutral venue.
“Whether clubs will want to play before an important league game on the Saturday could be an issue but there may not be any other alternative.
“We will of course talk to the clubs to see what their view is and take it from there.”
