IPSWICH Town chairman David Sheepshanks today confirmed that 'positive' enquiries have been made to improve manager Jim Magilton's squad for next season.

And he praised the efforts of the manager, staff and players for a rousing end to the season.

“We have made positive enquiries for players,” said Sheepshanks. “And I am hopeful we will be able to act on these in the not-too-distant future.

“If I was asked to give the season a mark out of ten it would be a forcing seven. If I had been asked in February it would have been a six.

“It has to be hats off to the manager, staff and players for the way they have finished the season with our form over the final 12 games enough to win automatic promotion.

“I am not getting carried away, and I don't want to be accused of optimistic rhetoric, but my head and my heart tells me the future looks quite exciting.

“All credit to the manager, who has fashioned this improvement.

“The players who have come in have reacted well, and in addition we have youngsters from our academy developing before our eyes.

“Hopefully yesterday's game - and ones over the last few weeks - have sent a message to season ticket doubters.

“Our supporters have been fantastic, and the manager has put a marker down by bringing the players in early for pre-season.”
