IPSWICH Witches management are today still fending off claims that last night's postponement at Foxhall Stadium was a fix.

IPSWICH Witches management are today still fending off claims that last night's postponement at Foxhall Stadium was a fix.

The planned home Sky Sports Elite League match against bottom of the table Belle Vue was called off on Monday after squirrels gnawed through electricity cables in woods outside the stadium.

There was no guarantee that power would be on tap for the whole meeting after emergency repairs allowed last Sunday's stock car meeting to go ahead.

Ironically, if the match had gone ahead spectators would have been left disgruntled as drizzle turned into persistent rain around 9.00pm and the chances are the meeting would not have been completed.

Answering accusations from so-called supporters that Ipswich did not want the match to take place, director Magda Louis said: "I cannot understand these negative thoughts.

"We are as frustrated as anybody but how would we have looked if there had been a power failure, affecting the starting gate etc, half-way through the meeting.

"We beat Peterborough well last week, and wanted to keep the momentum going. Scott Nicholls would have been out but Mark Loram and Billy Hamill were being considered to guest at number five. Otherwise we had a full side apart from Joonas Kylmakorpi.

"The decision was out of our hands, with Foxhall Stadium manager Nick Thomas informing us of the problem on Monday."

Ipswich are back in action on Wednesday when they ride at Peterborough in a televised league match. The following day they are at home to King's Lynn.
