The ex-Coventry, Charlton, Crystal Palace and Oldham boss reportedly had his contract terminated with immediate effect this morning.
QPR currently sit ninth in the Championship table despite a huge influx of cash which has made them one of the richest clubs in the league.
Dowie had been in charge for just 15 games.
Ipswich face Rangers at Portman Road on November 1.
