SUFFOLK'S top young schools rugby players will be competing in a special competition at Ipswich tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon for the chance to play on the hallowed turf at the Sports Headquarters, Twickenham.

SUFFOLK'S top young schools rugby players will be competing in a special competition at Ipswich tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon for the chance to play on the hallowed turf at the Sports Headquarters, Twickenham.

Ipswich Rugby Club is hosting the county finals of the Zurich Daily Telegraph competition. Eight schools have entered teams in each of the under 12 and under 13 age groups. Games will be 12 a-side over a limited duration at 2.30 until 4.30pm at Humber Doucy Lane.

The two winners in each age group will go forward to National County Finals to be staged at Richmond Rugby Club. Then the four semi-finalists in each age group will play in the grand finals at Twickenham in curtain-raiser games ahead of the match between the army and the navy at the end of the season. The finals will be staged at half-time at Twickenham during the services match.

"It is a great opportunity for these youngsters from primary state schools in the area" said Darren Hines who is organising the event.

Schools taking part are in the Under 13s Gislingham from Stowmarket, Lothingland, Lowestoft, St James and St Louis from Bury St Edmunds along with Westley and Hardwick also from West Suffolk, Kesgrave and Thomas Mills of Framlingham. The Under 12 schools competing are Halesworth, Elmtree, Horringer, St Louis, St James, Westley all Bury St Edmunds, Kesgrave and Farlingaye of Woodbridge.
