IT was a great day for Andrew Robinson, the PGA trainee at Felixstowe Ferry, in the Suffolk Winter Alliance meeting held on his home course.

He conquered the strong and very cold wind to produce a round of four under par to beat Danny Barton of Fynn Valley by one shot.

Robinson, a former Suffolk county player, also brought in the winning team in a medal with the best two net scores to count on each hole. David Markham of Rushmere made a valuable contribution to this success with a three (net two) on the par five 10th hole. The other members of the winning team were Tony Dinwiddy and Guy Whiting.

A field of 99 players, including 14 professionals, enjoyed a course excellently prepared by head greenkeeper John Houston. Felixstowe Ferry vice-captain Trevor Mason presented the prizes.

The next Suffolk Winter Alliance meeting will be at Southwold on April 1.
