The South African, who guided the Humber Doucy Lane outfit to the London 2 North title, will be replaced by backs coach Lee Parry, who was part of the backroom staff last season.

Breedt, who ends a three-year association with Ipswich, could remain at the club in some capacity but believes he has accomplished what he set out to achieve.

“I got the team promoted and now it’s time for a break,” said Breedt.

“I spoke to the director of rugby (Karl King) at Christmas time and the two of us knew I was going to take a step back, but I kept it quiet as I did not want to upset things.

“It’s hard work being a coach when it’s not a full-time role and I have my family and work commitments too.

“There has been no dramas though and I have left on good terms. I will still be around the place, although I am not sure what my role will be, if indeed I have a role.”

He added: “I am immensely proud of the boys. It’s been a long three years and the team has built up really nicely and it was really special to win promotion as champions.”

Parry, who spent time with Coventry in the Championship and also works as a development officer for Eastern Counties Rugby, will now be charged with identifying the players for London 1 North, along with King.

“The boys are in good hands with Lee,” added Breedt.

“He has a lot of experience working with youngsters and is the right guy for the job.

“Certainly I would not have left had there been nobody to take over.”
