DEBEN Swimming Club finished in second place as they competed for the first time in the Florida Coaches Shield Gala at Halstead Leisure Centre.
Host club Halstead fielded two teams, with Witham and Dunmow providing the other competition.
There were notable swims by many of the Deben competitors including brother and sister, Jon and Joanne Crisp. Joanne came closest to an individual victory in her 100m freestyle event.
Six swimmers recorded personal bests with one of the youngest members of the team, Robert Attwater, knocking over five seconds off of his 50m butterfly best time.
Despite no individual wins, Deben still managed to finish second overall, an outstanding team performance.
This week, Deben Swimming Club's Teaching Section are holding their annual Distance Night. This gives the opportunity for most of the younger swimmers in the club to earn certificates and badges by completing various distances from five to 1,500 metres.
The Teaching Section has 126 children on its register, ranging from a complete beginners group, through to a more advanced lengths group, which prepares swimmers for the competitive squads within the club.
While giving the children the chance to swim further than they have previously been used to, the emphasis is also on completing their chosen distance in one recognisable stroke on either their front or back.
