TEN-MEN Old Newton continued their recent improvement with another win at basement side Ransomes.

The winner came from the ever-available Bryant slotting home after Clark's cannon of a free-kick had been pushed away by Barnett.

Ransomes opened the scoring after 23 minutes after Trundle's magic won a throw. This was wind-assisted and flicked off two players finding Bowman at the far post to score.

Newton created several openings and levelled after 41 minutes. Clark foxed the home defence sliding his kick to the onrushing Collins to flick the ball passed Barnett.

The major talking point of the game was the red carding of Newton's Richards. He and Beastly challenged for a high bouncing ball, Richards tried to knee the ball past the defender, catching him in the process.

The referee's whistle blew and Richards was shown a straight red card. After the game the official would not elaborate on his decision leaving everyone totally mystified.

Walsham 6 Leiston St Margaret's 0

WALSHAM'S groundsman had done an excellent job getting the pitch ready following the previous weeks downpour.

The visitors started brightly without causing too much trouble. It took Walsham nearly 20 minutes to get into their stride but once they did the game was as good as over.

Keeble got the first goal and minutes later it was 3-0 both scored by Mark Moye.

It was all Walsham now and no surprise when Zarkos intercepted a poor back pass to score the fourth goal.

Walsham made some lovely moves and but for Leiston keeper Bloomfield the hosts may have had double figures.

Substitute Mayhew crashed a 25-yard shot against the underside of the bar and Miles was the first to react to score.

The sixth goal came when Miles was fouled in the area by Bloomfield and Mark Moye dispatched a penalty.

On this form Walsham looked worthy leaders while Leiston will have to improve in order to survive at the end of the season.

Stonham Aspal 0 Capel Plough 1

THIS was a scrappy affair with Stonham having the advantage of a strong wind at their backs enjoying most of the early play but continually falling into the visitors' off side trap.

Bucy missrd an easy chance for Capel when he volleyed wide with only the keeper to beat.

Despite kicking into the wind, the home attack looked sharper after the break; keeper Hunt failing to hold a cross from Buguone, the ball being cleared off the line by a defender. The keeper made amends, as he got down to tip a goal-bound shot from Brown round his upright.

Capel broke the deadlock in the 77th minute; a powerful shot from Bucy being pushed out by Lay with Mayhew volleying home.

In injury time, keeper Hunt made a reflex save to a volley from Brown.

Melton St A 1 Ipswich Athletic 2

SECOND half goals from Calver and Karantzs gave the visitors victory with Thurkettle pulling back a late goal for the Saints.
