STEVE Spartacus, the undefeated professional boxer from Bramford, will be bidding to make it seven wins out of seven in London on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old former Eastern Counties Amateur Champion whose real name is Steve Smith, takes on 30-year-old Michael Pinnock at Birmingham over four rounds at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.

It will be the second time that Smith has fought Pinnock.

He opened his professional career with a four round points win over him two years ago on a show in Hammersmith.

"I beat him quite well then and I will beat him even better this time," said the Suffolk light heavyweight fighter whose contest with Pinnock is on a glittering East London bill which is headed by the Johnny Nelson versus Napolean Tagoe world cruiser weight title encounter.

Smith continued: "Pinnock has a fairly ordinary ring record but just lately he has been enjoying one of the best runs of his career. Not so long ago he stopped Ivan Boton and that was a notable success for him.

"He is quite cool and durable but I should be too good for him and I'm looking forward to being backed by my usual large following of fans from the Ipswich area who always travel with me for London fights."

Pinnock comes down from cruiser weight to make this contest with the up and coming Smith, who enters the ring wearing the full Spartacus regalia.

Pinnock weighs thirteen and a half stone and Smith is currently tipping the scales at 12 stone 10.

In his last contest Smith was successful on a big show at the M.E.N arena in Manchester that was headed by Ricky Hutton. Smith went on at the end of the evening and made it six out of six with a comprehensive show to out point Darren Ashton, the Midlands Champion from Stoke, over four rounds.

Bob Shelley, the Ipswich businessman who is Smith's friend and advisor said: "Steve has started his professional career so well and the promoters love him because he is quite a character as well as being a very accomplished boxer. Before long he may be up for a title of some sort and he will deserve it."

Smith's fight with Ashton up in the north west last month was his first under the new promotion of Britain's top boxing man Frank Warren.

He remains under the management of Tony Simms who says: "I'm delighted with the way he has put his unbeaten record together so far. We're confident he can overcome Pinnock for the second time and there are much bigger names than him ahead."
