STEVE Smith, the professional boxer from Bramford who fights under the name of Spartacus, is set to sign a two-year deal with the major Sports Network organisation headed by Frank Warren.

The 23-year-old Smith, who has previously been with the TBS promoters, will continue to be managed by Tony Sims.

Smith, the former top amateur who has won all five of his professional fights, said: "I'm going to see Frank Warren with my manager Tony Sims on Monday and it should all be signed and sealed. I see it as a major step forward in my career and could accelerate my progress towards a title shot of some sort."

Under the Warren organisation, Smith is set for a fight in Manchester late this month, followed by bouts in London in November and Norwich in December.

Smith, who enters the ring dressed like Spartacus, has a following of fans from Suffolk that is growing all the time.

He said: "My professional career has started well and people at the top of the sport are beginning to take notice. I think I'm improving all the time and being with someone like Frank Warren can only help."
