The Ipswich ‘Tru Plant’ Witches have completed the signing of Krystian Pieszczek for the 2019 Premiership season, writes Henry Chard.

The Polish rider had his first taste of British speedway in 2018 with Leicester finishing with an average of 6.50 and Pieszczek explained how the move to Suffolk came about.

“I was recommended through my last British club Leicester,” said Pieszczek. “My manager Thomas Gaszynski, who was Tomasz Gollob’s manager for 25 years, and Chris Louis, who Thomas has known for many years, contacted each other. I’ve decided to race in England again this year because it’s an extreme learning curve for me.

“I know that Tomasz Gollob rode here with Chris Louis and Tony Rickardsson and I am looking forward to riding in the Premiership with the club.”

He will ride for hometown club Gdansk in the Polish first division and Indianerna in the Swedish Elite league next campaign and says he is looking forward to being back in British speedway again.

“I haven’t been to Foxhall before, but I enjoyed the British league very much when I was with Leicester. I always give it my all whenever I’m racing, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people back in Poland will be keeping an eye on me.”

The 23-year-old was part of the Polish World Cup squad that lifted the title in 2016 as he also finished runner-up in the World Under-21 Championship that year to Max Fricke and he says he is ready to give his all to the Witches.

MORE: Loyalty is key to me, says Heeps

“The fans will definitely see me giving it my all and hopefully putting as many points as possible on the board for Ipswich. First and foremost, I want to stay injury free and secondly, I want to represent my clubs as best as possible and hopefully reach the play-offs.

“I am training with a regime that I’ve been using in the past, but a few changes have been added, hopefully for the better.”

Pieszczek joins Danny King, Jake Allen, Cameron Heeps and Richard Lawson in the 2019 side with just two spots left to fill until team building is complete.

2019 Season Tickets are now available to purchase, all the details can be found on the Ipswich Witches website.
