DAVID Starie has relinquished his British super-middleweight crown in order to concentrate fully on the world professional boxing scene.
This former Hurstlea-Kerridge Club of Needham Market amateur, who lives at Elmswell, may also throw in his Commonwealth crown next year.
The 28-year-old fighter was due to take on Markus Beyer of Germany early this month in an eliminating bout for the WBC title held by Eric Lucas of Canada.
But Beyer pulled out of the contest in Leipzig due to injury.
Now the German champion fights Lucas in March.
Starie said: "I've relinquished my British title in order to become a mandatory challenger for the WBC, sooner rather than later."
Two years ago he unsuccessfully challenged Joe Calzaghe of Wales for the WBO crown.
Starie went the 12-round distance at the MEN Arena in Manchester but lost on points.
