Stoke pair win in foursomes

GOLF: THE day was extremely windy and the large entry for the Centenary Foursomes at Rushmere Golf Club found the competition very challenging, although the eventual winners proved that it was by no means impossible to score well.

THE day was extremely windy and the large entry for the Centenary Foursomes at Rushmere Golf Club found the competition very challenging, although the eventual winners proved that it was by no means impossible to score well.

The course was in good condition and the Rushmere members and staff very helpful. 42 pairs entered. The results are as follows:

18 hole Foursomes Stableford played in the morning – Centenary Plates: J Landen and F Grundy (Stoke by Nayland) 39 pts, M Tucker and D Stowe (Waldringfield) 33 pts, A White and J Bennett (Bungay) 32 pts, S Fulcher and P Bull (Woodbridge) 31 pts, A Cunningham and A Smith (Bungay) 30 pts, M Yapp and A Frost (Rookery/Southwold) 30 pts.

Nine Hole Foursome Stableford played in the afternoon: M Walker and K Hardy (Woodbridge/Halesworth) 19 pts, A White and J Bennett (Bungay) 18 pts, J Errington and E Thomas (Woodbridge) 18 pts.

The weather was unexpectedly good and the Gainsborough Course proved to be challenging and in good order for the Coronation Foursomes at Stoke by Nayland. Thirty pairs entered the competition and although not a large field, those who played enjoyed their day.

27 Holes Medal Foursomes – Le Blond Trophies: H Fitch and C Nicholson (Bury) 111 nett, S Laws and L Robinson (Ipswich/Bury) 111.75 nett, S Morrison and H Plant (Aldeburgh/Thorpeness) 112.75 nett, B Jones and S Mattocks (Bungay) 115.25 nett, S Lockett and J Bell (Stowmarket) 115.75 nett.

Suffolk Junior Girls lost against Cambs & Hunts at Girton Golf Club, Cambridgeshire.
