IPSWICH face a tough test if they are to progress in the UEFA Cup after FC Sartid snatched a 1-1 draw at Portman Road to take back to Yugoslavia for the second-leg on October 3rd.

The Yugoslavs showed no nerves on the UEFA Cup debut and defended stubbornly throughout.

Things looked bad for Ipswich when Sartid took the lead on the half hour mark. Demir Ramovic sent a through ball towards Nenad Mirosavlijevic which Mark Venus failed to intercept and Mirosavlijevic latched on to the ball before despatching it past Andy Marshall.

Ipswich changed their system for the second-half and enjoyed their best spell of the game in the third quarter of the match.

Ten minutes into the second-half Alun Armstrong equalised for Ipswich when a deep cross from John McGreal found the Town striker in space and after controlling the ball on his thigh he rifled a volley into the net.

Finidi George and Marcus Bent were both introduced in the closing stages to try and grab a winner for Town but it was not to be.

Sartid seemed happy with a draw and despite playing five minutes of injury time with ten men, Dejan Kekezovic was dismissed for a second bookable offence, their defence held firm.

Ipswich now must score in the away leg to go through. With goals hard to come by for the Blues at present it promises to be a stiff challenge.
